WebOct 10, 2024 · The largest trial enrolled 158 patients with cirrhosis after treatment of recent variceal bleeding, who were randomly assigned (1:1) to simvastatin 40 mg/day (n=69) or placebo (n=78). Among those with Child-Pugh class A or B cirrhosis, simvastatin 40 mg/day significantly improved survival. WebStatins appear to be safe in patients with compensated cirrhosis, and evidence suggests that they may reduce fibrosis, even in patients with advanced fibrosis and cirrhosis. Further high-quality research on this topic is needed to fully delineate the effect of statins in patients with liver disease.
