After doing research it appears it's wood worm.

Arranged for home serve to come and look at the sofa and hopefully fix it, as when we brought the sofa was told by staff at Harvey’s the extra cover including mechanisms and reclining issues. We ordered it in brown which had a 12-14 week lead time, but unfortunately fell foul of the Covid-19 lockdowns.
